In Australia, particularly in rural areas, it is common for those in year 12 to have a Debutaune (sp?) Ball. Traditionally, I think it's supposed to be about presenting the girls to society as women, or something like that. However, these days it's probably just an excuse for something to do. Anyways, the girls are partnered with a boy of their choice and they are "presented" to the guests on the evening, do some dancing (waltzing, mostly), eat and then go home. Is this similar to a Matric Ball? ~S.
