Why Can't you see me?

Why cant you see me?
To everyone else eyes, I am a disappointment,
They look at me and they wonder why my mother didn’t do anything,
They go up to her, thinking they have the right to blame my mother for not raising me right,
The see my experience as a queer human, as her fault
They see my experience as a mix raced child, as her fault
They see my fight for human rights and animal rights as plague she set upon me
But what about me?
I am my mother’s child and so much more,
She has taught and shared with me her beliefs and experiences and
I have taken them and grown with my own
To everyone else I am a disappointment,
but to my mother I am her child and she loves me,
She loved me through my struggle of discovering my identity as queer person in a Christian community,
She loved me as I came to terms with the mental obstacles the world has for my friends and I, Struggling to find a place and mechanism that allow us to thrive,
She listened to me as I discovered the inequalities of the world from a different point view,
And we discuss this over and over learning something new and agreeing to disagree in solidarity, Because we were both raised with this responsibility to serve our community, offering our voices to speak out for humanity, talking about our own experiences and listening to the experiences of the cultures around us.
So when I scream Black lives matter, queer lives matter, mental health matters,
climate change calls for human change, eat the rich, systemic racism, sexism, classism exists
They are not a plague that my mother bore me,
in fact they are not even all words my mother would say,
The only plague placed upon me and you is the structure of our society,
 Because I am queer,
I recognise a history of when people like me were seen as criminals, predators,
shamed into hating themselves,
shamed into hiding underground to be themselves as well as protect themselves and though laws have change,
the stigma stays the same.
Because I am mixed raced,
I grew up with this knowledge that part of my family will always be treated unfairly because of white privilege,
privilege that I have because I ‘pass’ as white, that there were people who opposed my parents’ marriage just because they were of a different race,
that my mom’s dignity and life is always in danger because of ignorance and prejudice.
These are only two parts of my identity which are integral to me,
I didn’t choose to be different, but I am proud to be me and you know
I am not alone and that my experiences are shared but also not definitive for everyone else in these communities so stop blaming my mother for the disappointment you associate with me my mother loves me …and so do I

As I began to love Myself

The first picture is of

Charlie Chaplin at age 26, photographed a 100 years ago.

It is believed he wrote the poem below at age 70.

“As I began to love myself

I found that anguish and emotional suffering

are only warning signs that I was living

against my own truth.

Today, I know, this is Authenticity.

As I began to love myself

I understood how much it can offend somebody

if I try to force my desires on this person,

even though I knew the time was not right

and the person was not ready for it,

and even though this person was me.

Today I call this Respect.

As I began to love myself

I stopped craving for a different life,

and I could see that everything

that surrounded me

was inviting me to grow.

Today I call this Maturity.

As I began to love myself

I understood that at any circumstance,

I am in the right place at the right time,

and everything happens at the exactly right moment.

So I could be calm.

Today I call this Self-Confidence.

As I began to love myself

I quit stealing my own time,

and I stopped designing huge projects

for the future.

Today, I only do what brings me joy and happiness,

things I love to do and that make my heart cheer,

and I do them in my own way

and in my own rhythm.

Today I call this Simplicity.

As I began to love myself

I freed myself of anything

that is no good for my health –

food, people, things, situations,

and everything that drew me down

and away from myself.

At first I called this attitude a healthy egoism.

Today I know it is Love of Oneself.

As I began to love myself

I quit trying to always be right,

and ever since

I was wrong less of the time.

Today I discovered that is Modesty.

As I began to love myself

I refused to go on living in the past

and worrying about the future.

Now, I only live for the moment,

where everything is happening.

Today I live each day,

day by day,

and I call it Fulfillment.

As I began to love myself

I recognized

that my mind can disturb me

and it can make me sick.

But as I connected it to my heart,

my mind became a valuable ally.

Today I call this connection Wisdom of the Heart.

We no longer need to fear arguments,

confrontations or any kind of problems

with ourselves or others.

Even stars collide,

and out of their crashing, new worlds are born.

Today I know: This is Life!”

4 Weeks to Fall into Fitness

Walk 15® is the Live version of the Walk at Home indoor aerobic walking program which has been helping people get fit using DVDs for over 25 years.

With our Walk 15® classes, participants will benefit from the support of others in a group setting. Additionally, since all classes are held indoors, there are no harsh elements to deal with when exercising.

Our indoor aerobic walk classes are geared for those who enjoy walking for fitness and weight loss. Classes are appropriate for all ages and levels of fitness. Men, women, teens, and children can benefit from Walk 15® classes.

In a Walk 15® class, participants may walk 1, 2, 3, or more miles, in a group setting, using the proven techniques of the Walk at Home program. With just four basic steps, participants get a heart-pumping, calorie-torching aerobic workout.

Participants will utilize all muscles in the body by incorporating simple arm movements which helps build the intensity of the workout and provides strength training.

Each session begins with a warm-up to prepare the body for more in-tense exercise, and a cool-down to safely bring the heart rate and breathing back to normal for an overall safe workout.

Embracing health and wellness in 2017

I am excited about taking another step in the right direction to improving health and wellness.Over the last 15 years my physical and mental health has yo-yo'ed back and forth.
Three years ago i experienced a shift, I noticed that after altering a habit something would happend that would throw me off course but instead of completely returning to state I was in before, i managed to hold on to a least positive thing.
Instead of going back on anti-depressant, I managed to notice myself slipping and asked for help. I attended counselling, re-engaged with a hobby (like knitting) and re-connected with friends.
Two years ago I successfully gave up taking sugar in my hot drinks and cereal (after back sliding on following the Slimming World diet). Some family members still put sweetners or sugar in my coffee. I have had to resort to insisting on making the drinks or very quietly thowing it out and making a new cuppa.
Last year improved my fitness levels and started exercising on more regular basis.

This year I am incorporating Bright (SAD) light therapy, group fitness classes and volunteering at the Prehen Lifestyle center. Re-incorporating the lessons I have learnt over the years into my eating plan. This year I will more steps in creating healthier and happier me and taking my family and community along with me.

I am an African

I am an African
For her blue skies take my breath away
And my hope for the future is bright
I am an African
For her people greet me as family
And teach me the meaning of community
I am an African
For her wildness quenches my spirit
And brings me closer to the source of life
When the music of Africa beats in the wind
My blood pulses to its rhythm
And I become the essence of sound
When the colours of Africa dazzle in the sun
My senses drink in its rainbow
And I become the palette of nature
When the stories of Africa echo round the fire
My feet walk in its pathways
And I become the footprints of history
I am an African
Because she is the cradle of our birth
And nurtures an ancient wisdom
I am an African
Because she lives in the world’s shadow
And bursts with a radiant luminosity
I am an African
Because she is the land of tomorrow
And I recognise her gifts as sacred

Reflection on writing an assignment

I am int he process of working through study material and producing an assignment to show my understanding. When I was in high school I got the opportunity to play football/soccer......we got the opportunity to try out different positions in order to find out where we would fit better. Compared to other girls I understood the game very well.....i was physically fit.........but when i got in front of the goal post its as if I just lot the plot even without a goal keeper I still missed........however in defence I was able to get the ball away from oppoents and pass it forward with pretty good skill.......
I feel like I understand the material I am reading but when I start writing my assignment I can see that I missing the goal post.

Why Complaining ISN’T Leading

"If you took one-tenth the energy you put into complaining and applied it to solving the problem, you'd be surprised by how well things can work out… Complaining does not work as a strategy. We all have finite time and energy. Any time we spend whining is unlikely to help us achieve our goals. And it won't make us happier." - Randy Pausch

A problem, a failure or a complaint ....if I recognise anyone of these things then it becomes my responsibility to deal with it.....it could mean changing direction........it could mean set up boundaries........it could mean anaylse and learn then try again........

It definitely doesnt mean give up, give in,ignore and suffer.

Not all of us are called to lead non-profits or form boards, but we are all called to work for solutions. Here are ten ways you can morph from complainer to leader:
  1. If you are frustrated by your political leaders, rather than writing an angry status update or linking to some outrageous article, get involved. Volunteer in a campaign, vote in an election, run for office.
  2. Read on: Why Complaining ISN’T Leading
